(Step 2) FAITH

“The Whole Course of things goes to teach us FAITH, we need only obey.  There is guidance for each of us, and by lowly listening; we shall hear the right word.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Visualization and Belief in the Attainment of Desire

Straight out of High School being the adventurer that I am I entered the United States Naval Reserve; little did I know the real-adventure it would be.  About 7.5 years complete with my 8 year enlistment is when the US first began war with Iraq.  I remember watching on CNN my country bombing Bagdad…I then had to answer for myself the question, “What is FAITH for?” While I love my country, I would not have followed orders to be stationed on a ship in the gulf engaged in such a war.  The event crystallized my beliefs.  My conscience then became a test of my FAITH as I began Conscientious Objector Pleadings with the United States Navy during wartime.   It was a scary thing for me because I really had no idea what would happen next.  As it turns out after months of building my legal case, the Navy eventually honorably discharged me.  Whatever FAITH is, I knew I had more of it after going through this experience.  Peace was my Purpose then, and it continues to be now.

Today, many years later, sharing this part of my personal story…has its own Purpose:

To Build a Relationship with You that Expands Our Horizons.

What is FAITH to you, and how has it applied to your experience in life?

Would you say FAITH is religious, spiritual or both?

Do you find FAITH is inside of you or outside of you?

Where does FAITH show up in a Philosophy of Success, not to mention an IMezine?

Napoleon Hill identified FAITH as number 2 of 13 steps in his book Think and Grow Rich.  He spoke of FAITH as being Visualization and Belief in the Attainment of DESIRE (Step 1 Desire HERE).  In his view FAITH is one of the three most powerful of all the major positive emotions, next to LOVE and SEX!  He says Love is closely akin to the state of mind known as FAITH because Love comes very near to translating one’s thought impulses into their spiritual equivalent.

Mr. Hill describes that mixing or blending FAITH, LOVE and SEX in effect opens a direct line of communication between the finite thinking human mind and Infinite Intelligence, by way of the Subconscious Mind.  He said FAITH is a state of mind which may be induced or created by affirmations or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind, through the principle of autosuggestion (Step 3 Autosuggestion HERE).

howiliketosail (Step 2) FAITH
The Law of Autosuggestion, Napoleon Hill proposes will lift you up or pull you down, according to the way you set your sails of THOUGHT.  It is well described in the following verse:

If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don’t
If you like to win, but you think you can’t,
It is almost certain you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose,
you’re lost For out of the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will–
It’s all in the state of mind. .
If you think you are outclassed, you are,
You’ve got to think high to rise,
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before You can ever win a prize. .
Life’s battles don’t always go To the stronger or faster man,
But soon or late the man who wins Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!

What do you THINK?  Are your thoughts lifting you up or pulling you down?

Are DESIRE, FAITH and AUTOSUGGESTION part of your Business Plan for Success?

Ready to learn how to Be All You Can BE, by taking all 13 steps?

FAITH is a state of mind which can be developed at will after mastering the 13 Think and Grow Rich principles.

FAITH is the only known antidote for FAILURE.

Some of the following is what I have learned in my own application of all 13 Think and Grow Rich steps:

Autosuggestion convinces the subconscious mind that I believe I will receive that for which I ask and DESIRE.  The subconscious mind will act upon that Belief, then pass it back to me in the form of FAITH, followed by definite plans for procuring that which I DESIRE.

Repetition or affirmation of orders to my subconscious mind is the only method of voluntary development of the emotion of FAITH.

For evidence of the Power of FAITH we need only study the achievements of men and women who have employed it.  As only one of countless examples, the FAITH of Mahatma Gandhi of India comes to mind.  Gandhi wielded more Power than any other person living in his time, but it was not a material power.  He created his Power out of his understanding of the principle of FAITH and through his ability to transplant that FAITH into the minds of over two hundred million people.

istock 000002235734xsmall 300x225 (Step 2) FAITH
Gandhi accomplished through the influence of FAITH what the strongest military powers on earth could not then and will never accomplish.  The victory of his FAITH was in influencing two hundred million minds to move in unison as a single mind.  What other force on earth except FAITH could do as much?

Today, we can witness what the LACK of FAITH will do to governments and business, being paralyzed by widespread FEAR.  Yet in the past and still today growing out of the problems will be the solutions.  Leaders in business and industry will profit by the example which Gandhi set for the world.  Force and FEAR will be replaced with Cooperation and FAITH as leaders emerge who understand and apply the principles employed by Gandhi.  Leaders and followers will give and receive in the spirit of full cooperation which constitutes Power, then Power will be known in its highest and most enduring form.

The object of this IMezine is to help all who seek it to learn the art of changing their minds from FAILURE CONSCIOUSNESS TO SUCCESS CONSCIOUSNESS, to Remember and Experience how You Are the Master of Your Fate and the Captain of Your Soul.

I believe in the application of DESIRE (Step 1 Desire HERE) backed by FAITH because I have seen it lift people from lowly beginnings to places of power and wealth (see interviews I have conducted at:   http://TimothyBertOwen.com/interviews ).  My own firsthand experience has also proven to me how individuals staged a comeback after having been defeated in countless ways.

Having read this far I trust you remember experiences with DESIRE backed by FAITH that you yourself have had.

Do you remember the end of the movie The Matrix? when Neo says, Where we go from here is up to you.
Where do you choose to go from here?
Moving Up
You’ve traveled all the other roads… and you already know where they lead …don’t you?

PS.  Quick Review

Riches begin in the form of THOUGHT

The amount is only limited by the person in whose mind the THOUGHT is put into motion.

FAITH removes limitations

You too can rise upon the wings of FAITH, which can be created by a powerful force known as AUTOSUGGESTION (Step 3 Autosuggestion HERE).

I started reading this post and suddenly found myself challenging some of my thinking!

Yes, I found it heavy going – but it had me so engrossed I went back and re-read it a couple of times.

First off – I applaud you for your stance on Iran. I’m not saying you were right or wrong in your position but standing by your beliefs without knowing the consequences was extremely brave.

As to some of your questions, I personally believe faith is inside each and every one of us. The “religion” we choose is unimportant it is the belief in a “spiritual something” that gives us inner strength and that faith can drive us on in the face of adversity.

“Faith” or belief that something can be achieved is with me at all times. My conclusion is therefore, that faith is the ultimate motivator – it is within in us to drive us to achieve whatever goal we set for ourselves.

Thanks for getting me thinking. Wizzer

    Wonderful Wizzer!

Thank you for sharing those thoughts, I agree with you for many of us it can be “heavy stuff” as you say.

I had to work up the courage to share the test of my own Faith in making a post of something I had not made public information before. Fears of being judged etc. etc.

But I challenged myself to offer the most personal experience of FAITH that I could share with others from my own experience. The Navy gifted me with that.

This post had gone so long without a comment that I was left to wonder what people who have read it have thought about it. Even more importantly how it inspired them to think for themselves.

That may be the greatest gift I received, and still receive from the experience I share. In fact it has become my own personal definition of “sin” as well:

I consider it a personal “sin” if I allow myself to become who I am because of the experience of others.

To free us from any religious connotations that may bring up let me also say it this way:

Know Thyself, Be True to Thyself…Make up your own mind in place of simply going along with others.

I’ve also heard it said that in a board meeting for a successful company if any two people come up with the same suggestion/idea/solution to a problem…one of them doesn’t need to be there.

Being who we are may not be an easy task for many of us, but life sure gives us plenty of opportunities to “wake up” to ourselves doesn’t it?

I’m honored that you shared who you are with us Wizzer, may it inspire others to Know Themselves likewise whether they share with us here or not.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. For me faith is more then just religious or spiritual, it’s basically the belief in yourself that you can and will achieve the desired outcome.

It’s easy to have faith when everything is going your way, but if your faith is strong enough, it can pull you out of the most difficult situations, when everything is bleak, and it’s hardest to believe.

  4. Tim on July 8th, 2009 2:21 pm

Well said Mox. Thanks for sharing.

I’m guessing the awareness you have comes from some rich personal experiences that you have had around the topic of Faith as well.

  5. Sid Smith on July 8th, 2009 4:20 pm

I agree with you on many fronts. “Faith” has nothing to do with religion, although it is unfortunate that religions have usurped faith as belonging to them alone.

Faith is something of the mind. It is our own creation. One can have as much “faith” as an atheist as a believer in God.

I can have complete faith that I’ll find a parking spot on a crowded street.

I can have faith that God will heal my wounds.

I can have complete faith that I will become rich beyond belief.

Sometimes our faith carries us into action that produces a result congruent with our faith.

Other times, like the recent death of a young girl at the hands of her faith-healing parents, faith does nothing to change the results because there was no associated action.

So, faith by itself is great… but stands little chance of producing results. Faith followed up by action congruent with the faith is what produces the desired results.

  6. Tim on July 8th, 2009 4:42 pm

Your action in sharing these rich insights and comments with us on the topic of Faith are appreciated Sid.

You cause me to think that possibly we don’t even really know and “experience” our own Faith until that moment of taking “action” with it occurs.

It is then that the intangible become tangible, and possibly a building of our Faith happens to then take further actions…with increasing Faith in those actions.

  7. Cala west on July 10th, 2009 9:58 am

This is good stuff. I am a firm believer in faith to design your destiny. Faith is believing without seeing. Man we should start to have faith again like when we were kids.

    Thank you Cala.

This is so true! Wow, your Faith determines your success. As I was reading this I was analyzing my own life and wondering how I perceive myself and where I am going.

  10. jackie on October 23rd, 2009 3:04 pm

    Hi Tim,

I find that my faith is the truly only stable thing in my life.
I am bi poplar and my thoughts and emotions are up and down. Medication helps to keep my thoughts on a more level ground.
I have dealt with mental illness my whole life!

It is only when I learned, later in my life, that there was something I could do about it. That's is okay, I am NOT crazy! Before I started to take medication, my heart and thoughts were racing and never stopping!
I thought I would have a heart attack or a nervous breakdown.

It was a relief to find out that there was something I could do to stop these symptoms! That I really wasn't going crazy after all. It was a relief to know that it was just an illness!

I thank the Lord for giving me the wisdom to accept myself for
whom I am and I am unique in my own way!

    Amen and God Bless You!
    Sincerely,
    Jackie
    See Ya! J

  11. TimOwen on October 23rd, 2009 3:35 pm

Wow, Jackie this is such a powerful sharing of “your heart of Faith,” I'm honored and most grateful, thank you.

It reminds me of a beautiful statement I heard years ago, “The heart speaks with words the mind (brain) knows nothing of.”

What you have shared here Jackie is an inspiring example of Humility's Power to Heal, and possibly most important of all the giving of credit where credit is do.

God really is Love, and not fear…

Therein may we all be reminded of that “Peace, that passeth understanding.”

A constant re-Mind-er of such a Peace to awaken from all our dreaming of that which is less than who we really are…as Children of a Loving God.

    Peace, God is.
